2019 gift guide // support local small business

Today is Small Business Saturday!! So appropriately, I am sharing some local finds from Silk Espresso, a coffee shop near us that also sells a variety of fun merchandise.

First off, Knotty and Nice jewelry. This gal makes rad earrings, cuffs, and hats.

Earrings are my go-to gift for friends, and these light weight leather ones are always a hit.

Knotty and Nice is on IG, FB, and has an Etsy shop.

I personally love Truth x Truth earrings (pictured below). I have two pairs that I wear often- they go with everything! These are available at Silk, or you can contact their FB or IG page.

What better way to give a gift than in one of these lovely hand-made bags? Check out Sewing State of Mine on FB or IG, or shop the bags at Silk Espresso if you are local! These make perfect make-up bags, bags to have within your diaper bag to keep a couple diapers and some wipes, toiletry bags for traveling, pencil bags for school, or are great for holding art supplies.

For the plant lover in your life, hanging and potted plants are available from Portland based Foraged Blooms.

If you are looking for a beautifully crafted gift box (perhaps for a boss or teacher gift?), Northwest Love in a Box puts together locally sourced ones at all price points.

Oh! Well what do we have here? A well-made, soft, and good-looking pullover always makes a great gift!

These metal signs, celebrating the beautiful region we call home, are made by my friend's husband and available at Silk Espresso. This one hangs in the entry way of our house.

And, of course, you can't go wrong with a cute mug and a good bag of coffee.

As you are doing your holiday shopping, please consider buying from small businesses, and please also consider giving back. One great way to do this is by choosing a gift tag from the Giving Tree at Silk Espresso. Simply purchase the item and bring it back to Silk, and it will be included in a Box of Love to be given to a child who is being discharged from the hospital and into the foster care system.

You can also support Boxes of Love with monetary donations.

Boxes of Love is also selling these water bottles in various sizes and fun colors. They would make perfect stocking stuffers, or gifts for anyone! Visit their FB page or IG account for more information.

 Other local/small business gift ideas:

- Find a local nature photographer and purchase a print of a spot that is meaningful to the recipient. Have it framed.

- Give a gift card for a local coffee shop or restaurant.

What other small and/or local businesses do you like to support? I would love to hear more ideas!
